The two main ways of advertising online are Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Pay-per-Click (PPC). This section will outline the difference between them so you can figure out which one works best for your business.
PPC involves paying certain advertising firms to get your restaurant put at the top of search engine results in the “Advertising Section.” SEO involves using best practice techniques to get your restaurant’s page near the top of search engine results naturally.
The biggest difference between the two is that PPC costs money while SEO costs time. In order to engage in PPC you will pay a company every time somebody clicks on your page but for that price you get a guarantee that your restaurant shows up at the top of any search result. If you do SEO you will not be paying any money, but will have to adhere to guidelines, always changing, to get the results you desire, which will inevitably mean more time spent. So one trade-off between the two is time vs. money.
Another thing to consider is which keywords you’re planning on using to tailor people to your particular spot. For example if you want your restaurant to show up every time someone searches “pizza near me” in your area and there are 100 pizza places all on Google, likely it will cost you more to do PPC and will take more time and effort to do SEO. In that case you may want to think about other advertising strategies. On the flip side if you are the only Indian food place in town it may be worth it to do PPC because it will be significantly cheaper.
